Oregon Team capitalized on a perfect strategy at Spa-Francorchamps in the fifth and penultimate round of the 2018 European Le Mans Series. The Italian squad secured their best finish of the last two seasons with a seventh place in the LMP3 class.
The result could have been even better for the team’s Norma M30 LMP3 and drivers Riccardo Ponzio, Andrés Méndez and Clément Mateu. Unfortunately, the race was suspended after just over two hours due to the heavy rain that fell since the earliest stages.
The interruption didn’t even allow Méndez to drive the car. The opening stint was completed by Ponzio, who stayed on-track as much as possible before handing the wheel to “bronze” driver Mateu.
But the result scored on one of the toughest circuits on the calendar once again highlighted the excellent potential of the car-team-driver combo despite the fact that the weekend had not started in the best way, with the variable of weather and a 14th place in qualifying on Saturday afternoon.
“We are definitely satisfied, although I am convinced that if the race had not been stopped, we would have been able to secure an even better result”, commented Jerry Canevisio, heading the Oregon Team together with Giorgio Testa.
The seventh place at Spa-Francorchamps really boosted the team’s morale, and everybody now looks forward to the final round of the season to be held at the end of October at Portimão.
