Following a not easy start of the season, Oregon Team managed to redeem themselves by celebrating two victories with Pierre-Louis Chovet and Maximilian Paul in the most recent rounds at Hungaroring and Paul Ricard, together with a third place finish in Budapest and two pole positions in France. Over a month after the Paul Ricard, the Italy-based squad in now ready to return to the track to face the fifth of seven International GT Open events scheduled this coming weekend at Spielberg.
Chovet and Paul head to the Austria track aiming to earn more points, looking forward the final stage of the season in Monza and Barcellona. Looking at the last year, when Oregon Team claimed a one-two result in race one and another victory in the second race, it could be withing their reach.
Although the 4.3 km Red Bull Ring track seems very suitable for the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 cars fielded by Oregon Team, another element to consider are the additional weight of 15 kg due to the new Balance of Performance, as well as the handicap time to be served due to the Paul Ricard victory.
There is no handicap for the other duo Daan Arrow-Pietro Perolini, who have shown steady improvement and aim for a podium after achieving two best sixth-place finishes.
The usual two one-hour free practice sessions will kick off on Friday. The first qualifying session will start on Saturday morning at 9, followed by the first 70-minute race scheduled at 12:30. The second qualifying session will begin on Sunday at 8:30. Race 2 (60 minutes) will start at 13:30. Both races will be broadcast via web streaming on the championship’s YouTube channel.
