It was an unusual weekend at Spa, as the heavy rain shortened the second race of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. In Belgium, Oregon Team finished again on points with Sebastian Balthasar and Marzio Moretti, who claimed a second place and the victory to take the lead in the Pro after the Paul Ricard opener.
At the Ardennes track, Balthasar endured a tough qualifying one, as his best lap-time was cancelled following the contact he had with another car. The German racer started the first race on dry track from 19th row. Eventually he and Moretti completed a strong recovery to finish 9th.
Moretti showed well in Q2 by setting the fifth quickest time and third of his class. But the red flag stopped race two after four laps behind the safety car and half points were awarded. Consequently the Oregon Team duo moved to third in the drivers’ standings, three points behind New Zealander Brendon Leitch.
In race one Pedro Ebrahim and Guillem Puyeu Beya started from seventh row courtesy of Brazilian who set the 14th time over 48 cars. Ebrahim recovered well to hand over the car to his teammate, who finished 8th. The Spaniard in Q2 ended on 17th, to maintain the same position in race two.
A good recovery also for Filippo Berto and Alessandro Mainetti, the latter 21st in Q1. The Oregon Team pair then finished on P13 and P11 of the Pro class. Berto set the 16th time in Q2, as well as in race two.
Less luck for Pro-Am duo Enrico Bettera and Lorenzo Pegoraro. Pegoraro started the weekend by setting the 18th time in Q1, but Bettera was involved in a late incident and was forced to a stop at 15 out of 20 total laps. Bettera set the 39th time in Q2 to finish 38th in the second race.
The next Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe round is now scheduled for 29-30 July at the Nürburgring.
