It definitely was a not easy weekend for Oregon Team in Portimão. The Cremosano-based team, that clinched the International GT Open title last year, didn’t take much. In the end, the best result was a 10th place finish in both races for the duo Pierre-Louis Chovet and Maximilian Paul, who shared one of the two brand-new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 cars fielded by the Italian squad. The other crew, formed from Pietro Perolini and Daan Arrow Pijl, took 14th and 18th place respectively on a twin Lambo.
“We undoubtedly suffered from a penalizing BoP, which couldn’t be changed during the weekend,” explained Jerry Canevisio, who leads the team alongside Giorgio Testa. “We tried to achieve the best result and the guys did a great job. But we’re obviously not satisfied. However, we’re confident that things will change for us starting from the next round in Spa.”
In the first qualifying session on Saturday, the fastest Oregon Team driver was Paul, who set the 14th quickest time. Perolini was further back. In the first race, the 23-year-old German racer completed the opening stint, starting a comeback that was then completed by Chovet, who took over the car after the pit-stop. Perolini and Arrow Pijl recovered 11 positions and finished 14th.
In the second official practice, on Sunday morning, Chovet set the ninth fastest time, with Arrow Pijl just two positions behind. The latter, alongside Paul, finished in 10th place again, while the Dutchman and Perolini slipped to 18th.
Chovet and Paul still managed to score their first points, which are certainly important for a long and interesting season ahead. Next stop in Belgium on May 27th and 28th.
